He is not far from us

Last Sunday I went to The Garden, the Long Beach church plant by LA mega-church Rock Harbor. Melis and I agreed that it was great and both gleaned some major nuggets from the sermon. We also got a great tour of LB from our rockin friend Jon. "I think you're gonna like it," he said. How correct he was:)

Acts 17:16-34

24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'

The preacher stated that all of our "hookups, (be it sex, drugs....)" are our attempts fo find intimacy, a connection with someone who knows us and is willing to be known by us!

He asked "what are you doing to order the chaos that is your life?"

And spoke of repentance as not being literally translated as "being sorry" but something deeper. Repentance is "not living as if you do not know." God help me to live honestly. How can I pursue the desires of the flesh, when I know it is you my soul seeks? And I do know. Forgive me for living like I don't know your truth. God I know you have ordained every place and companion for my life. Thank you for reminding me that you are not far from me. You are not far from us. Hallelujah!
